Description
KISS is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1973 with Paul Stanley-vocals, rhythm guitar, Gene Simmons - vocals, bass guitar, Ace Frehley- lead guitar, and Peter Criss - drums, vocals. The band took on comic book style character: Stanley -Starchild, Simmons - the Demon, Frehley - Space Ace and Criss – Catman.
Chris and Frehley left the group by 1982. In 1983 the group, with new members, started performing without make-up that lasted for over ten years. Their 1983 album Lick It Up gained them a new generation of fans and together with KISS nostalgia the original members re-united in 1996 along with the make-up returning. Criss and Frehley again left the group and were replaced by Eric Singer – drums, vocals and Tommy Thayer – lead guitar, vocals. In September 2018, after 45 years of performing they embarked on the “It’s the End of the Road Tour” that started January 2019 and will conclude in 2022.
KISS rates as one of the most influential bands of all time having earned 30 Gold album, more than any other band, 14 Platinum and three Multi-Platinum record awards by the RIAA. The band and it’s original members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 10, 2014. MTV ranks them #9 in their Greatest Metal Bands of All Time and VH! Ranks them #10 on their Greatest Artist of Hard Rock.
