Description
The Magician’s Birthday is the fifth album by the British rock group Uriah Heep, released in November of 1972 by Mercury Records in the USA. The vinyl album was a gate-fold sleeve designed by Roger Dean. The album reached #31 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1973 and the single “Sweet Lorraine” topped at #91 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album Gold, 500 million in record sales, that year also.
Uriah Heep formed in 1969 in London, England. The band, at the time of the album, consisted of vocalist David Byron, guitarist Mick Box, bassist Gary Thain, percussionist Lee Kerslake, and keyboardist, guitar, Moog synthesizer, and kazoo, Ken Hensley. Hensley wrote most of the tracks and all other tracks were written with combinations of the groups members.
