Led Zeppelin II was released in October 1969 by Atlantic Records. (SD8236) The
album's production was credited to the band's lead guitarist and song writer Jimmy Page. It was entirely recorded using the bands core members. Page, guitar, Robert Plant, vocals, John Paul Jones, bass and keyboards, John Bonham, drums. The album exhibited the band's evolving style of blues-derived material and guitar riff-based sound. It has been described as the band's blueprint for all heavy metal bands to follow.
In 1989 Spin Magazine ranked the album No. 5 on the list of 25 Greatest Albums of All Time. In 2003 it ranked No. 75 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of all time
Led Zeppelin has left an indelible mark in the history of rock and roll. They were
inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005 along with four songs inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Album awards include five Diamond (10,000,000 sold), fourteen Multi Platinum, four Platinum and one Gold certifications from the Record Industry Association of America. Five albums are included in the Rolling Stone magazine’s the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and #14 in Greatest Artists of All Time in 2004. The band ranked #1 on the VH1’s Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. In 2012 they were recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors.
Formed in 1968, Led Zeppelin disbanded in 1980 after the death of drummer John Bonham. The other band members included Jimmy Page- lead guitar, Robert Plant-lead vocals, and John Paul Jones-bass guitar. Their biography in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame states they were “as influential during the 1970’s as the Beatles were during the 1960’s”.
