Artist's Description
Wartburg Castle, overlooking the town of Eisenach, was originally built in the Romanesque style throughout the 12th to 15th century. Much of the present day interior dates to the 19th century. During a sanctuary from the Court of Inquisition in 1521, Martin Luther translated the New Testament into the German language. In 1967, during the Russian Occupation, the castle was the site of the 900th anniversary of the Wartburg's foundation, the 450th anniversary of the beginning of Martin Luther's Reformation, and the 150th anniversary of the Wartburg Festival. Now, no longer occupied by the Russian's, it is again a part of the east and west combination of the original Germany's.
About Robert VanDerWal
As you can see from the various Collections, my areas of interest are broad. I work at letting the subject speak for itself and strive to offer something that gets your attention because it got mine. I have been behind a camera most of my life. It started in high school as newspaper and yearbook photographer. After serving in the US Armed Forces I attended Brooks Institute of Photography. Most of my career however was dedicated to video production as a director of photography, camera operator, editor, and owner operator of a video production company in Denver, Colorado. Since 2011 I have returned to my roots in still photography, making the transition from film to digital. Thank you so much for your interest in my work. I hope...
