Artist's Description
View of the Hotel Del Coronado Tower from the beach side of the hotel. On the raised platform on the right is the hotel's swimming pool.
Hotel Del Coronado, also know as The Del and Hotel Del, is a historic beach front hotel in the city of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay from San Diego, California. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the Wooden Victorian beach resort. It is the second largest wooden structure in the USA. The Tillamock Air Museum in Tillamock, Oregon is larger. The Del was designated a California Historical Landmark in 1970 and a National Historic Landmark in 1977. AAA Auto rated Hotel Del a Four Diamond Hotel and USA Today once listed it as one the the top ten resorts in the world.
About Robert VanDerWal
As you can see from the various Collections, my areas of interest are broad. I work at letting the subject speak for itself and strive to offer something that gets your attention because it got mine. I have been behind a camera most of my life. It started in high school as newspaper and yearbook photographer. After serving in the US Armed Forces I attended Brooks Institute of Photography. Most of my career however was dedicated to video production as a director of photography, camera operator, editor, and owner operator of a video production company in Denver, Colorado. Since 2011 I have returned to my roots in still photography, making the transition from film to digital. Thank you so much for your interest in my work. I hope...
