The LP was an immediate critical and commercial success and is widely regarded one of the greatest debuts in the history of rock music.
It reached number five on the US Billboard Top LP's, remaining on the chart for 106 weeks, 27 of those in the Top 40. In 2005 Rolling Stone ranked Are You Experienced 15th on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The magazine also placed four songs form the album on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time: “Purple Haze” (17), “Foxy Lady” (153), “Hey Joe” (201), and “The Wind Cries Mary” (379). Also that same year the record was one of 50 chosen by the Library of Congress in recognition of its cultural significance to be added to the National Recording Registry.
About Robert VanDerWal
As you can see from the various Collections, my areas of interest are broad. I work at letting the subject speak for itself and strive to offer something that gets your attention because it got mine. I have been behind a camera most of my life. It started in high school as newspaper and yearbook photographer. After serving in the US Armed Forces I attended Brooks Institute of Photography. Most of my career however was dedicated to video production as a director of photography, camera operator, editor, and owner operator of a video production company in Denver, Colorado. Since 2011 I have returned to my roots in still photography, making the transition from film to digital. Thank you so much for your interest in my work. I hope...
